I have a million different interests: Cooking, vintage video games, and baseball, just to name a few. But nothing defines me more than my love of music. I grew up around a little bit of everything: My dad loved everything 80s, primarily new wave, and Pink Floyd. My mom on the other hand grew up in the 80s as well, but focused on the heartthrobs, having actually seen Ricky Martin-era Menudo live once. She would later take me to my first proper concert – Michael Buble’s Crazy Love Tour in Tampa.
All that music had to, in one way or another, inspire me to find musical inspiration of my own. My favorite song of all time is “American Tune” by Paul Simon, but my favorite band of all time, more days than not, is The Who. My favorites are pretty diverse — Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Weezer, Lizzo, and Alice Cooper all make the same list, so you and I probably like at least a few of the same songs. I also love documenting all the live shows I’m so fortunate to have the opportunity to experience before I won’t be able to anymore.
My love for this is not a “see-them-before-they-die” thing: There’s just something about live music, and photographing/writing about it that is unfathomably engaging. Some people really love these people, but may not have the capacity, or finances, to go see them in person. Entertainment is sacred, be it comedy, or old time rock and roll. Therefore, it is my objective in life to make people feel like they, for an hour or two, got to share a room with a fave, even if the photos are from the cheap seats.
In March of 2020, I began freelancing for Creative Loafing Tampa Bay, and after a few months of proving myself, I now cover local and live music in the Tampa Bay area. That said, it’s not a full-time position, and I am always seeking new professional opportunities.
I’m also currently in the process of writing a memoir style book that looks back on the first three years of my concert going, titled I Don’t Have A Car: My Concert Stories. I’m not sure when I’ll put it out, but if you want a copy, drop me a line and I’ll sell ‘ya one!
